Prevalence of FGM: Unknown

Most common types: Types 1,2 and 4

Common ages practiced: Usually before the age of 3

Regional information: Evidence suggests FGM is practiced in the Republic of Dagestan (Russia’s North Caucasus). Botlikh,Tsuntin, Bezhta plot (FGM almost universal), Tsumadinsky and Tlyaratinsky District (FGM prevalence approx 50%).

Practicing groups: Among Muslim communities.

FGM Law in Russia: No specific law prohibiting FGM. (Bill has been presented to parliament, Aug 2016)

School holidays in Russia: The school year in Russia traditionally starts on September 1 (The Knowledge Day). The school year is divided into four terms (quarters), separated by one- or two-week holidays (the first week in November, the first two weeks in January, and the last week of March).
