Regional information: Prevalence of FGM is highest in the South West of Nigeria

Practicing groups inlude: Ekoi, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Ibibio and Ijaw

Terminology: ‘Ibi/Ugwu’ (Igbo, The act of cutting), ‘Didabe fun omobirin//ila kiko fun omobirin’ (Yoruba), ‘Isa aru’ (Ibo, Bathing before delivery), ‘Sunna’ (Mandingo, Religious tradition/obligation (for Muslims))
